Oyez, Ahoy and Hello again to Chicago’s King Richard’s Faire Fans! Here is the program for 1984 (program scanning courtesy of Kathie Obuchowski).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • This year’s scenario was titled, “Romancing the Throne.” It was written by Doug Frew and Patti McKenny and was a four-episode drama spread over seven weekends.
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Several notable ensemble performers appear in recurring or key roles: Ray Nelson, Bodge Burinski, Richard Weber, Douglas Kondziolka, Larry Bunton, and Jose Granados. Gary Boeck took on a larger role this season as Lord High Chancellor Mortimer Wolmsley. Mary Beth McMahon also took on a larger role in the scenario as Lady Gwendolyn Carew. Lee Ramey played a vast number of roles this season, including Leonardo da Vinci. Frank Harnish returned as William Shakespeare.

  • The only member of the Ring of Steel to appear in the ensemble fight cast this season was Brian J. Conrad.

  • The William Shakespeare play, “As You Like It” was performed daily by the scenario and variety performers playing their faire characters playing the characters in the play!
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The Hanlon-Lees Action Theater was this year’s joust troupe.
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • In addition to a large company of performers in the College of Wizards a new troupe called Elves of the Green World is added. Renee Aten, Diane Ruegger and Dusty Traum make their first appearances at KRF in this group.

  • Jacquie Blevins Manning and Marilyn Middleton Mellor appear as the Bawdy Beggar Girls. Rob Middleton and Mick Wright appear as Dick Darby and His Pal Mick. Brian Leo appears as a solo act this year as Tinker MacLea.

  • Arthur Morison appears as Bob the Pirate (for the first time at KRF?).
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Franklyn D. Garland and Richard Rupkalvis appear as the Brothers Grin and Bearit. Other memorable variety acts included the Don Juan and Miguel Show (Jose Granados and Doug Kondziolka) Rolo Polo “The Crazed Spiceman from the Orient (Danny Lord), Smee and Blog, the Singing Executioners (John Doering and Allen Allen John Olson), Deante’ Fettuccine (Jim Ellis), Moxie Puppets (David Ballard) and The Beggars [The Mud Show] (Conrad Warren, J. Chris Hueben, Rush Pearson and Tim Goforth).

  • Philip Earl Johnson performed as the Fishmonger this season.
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Several significant musical acts appeared this year, including: Sticks and Stones, Sungarden, Celtic Stone, Jerry Spurlock, Judith Pintar, Malcolm Smith and Musickes Merrie Companions.

  • Members of The Queen’s Dance Company doubled as the Gypsy Dance Troupe.
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Phil Burchnell stepped out of the scenario “fight” cast and played the Town Crier this season.
    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Little Folk’s Glen was transformed into the Minstrel’s Glen for this season. This was a very popular move for both the audience and the performers. RogueOafanFool’s Stage in the southwest corner of the site became the Gypsy Cove & Mud Pit.

  • The Gallows remained in the New Market area. The Wash Well appears near the Cottage Stage. The Village Stage becomes Forest of Arden Stage (for this year’s daily performances of As You Like It.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
